I am the Manager of National Autoglass Supplies Australia Pty Ltd based in Townsville and I have employed a profoundly deaf person was sent to me by North Queensland Competitive Employment Service.
I must say that I had my reservations about employing a deaf person at the time however he has now been with the company 15 months and I have found him to be an asset to this company. He is hard working, loyal, is very intelligent and is always on time.
My initial concerns were that we may have difficulty communicating with him however this was not the case. He fitted into the group with no problems whatsoever. He has become my most valuable employee. I would suggest that any business prepared to give people with a disability a fair go will find themselves better for it.
